Pain is a serious health condition that affects a large number of people in the world. Chronic pain is described as the pain which lasts for more than six months. It is characterized as either intermittent or continuous where it occurs for a long period of time. The chronic pain is brought about by various diseases or injuries that result in damage to body tissues (Edmond et al., 2018).

The following are examples of the different causes of chronic pain; diabetic neuropathy, accident injuries, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, etc. Chronic pain mainly affects the individual’s quality of life whereby he or she is not able to perform his daily activities and it also results to other severe health problems such as anxiety, sleeping difficulties, depression etc. The healthcare providers should focus on relieving the patient’s pain. The pain is subjective in that only the patient experiencing the pain can be able to describe it (Wertli & Steurer, 2018). Thus the healthcare providers should come up with the best interventions that will work on individual patients. It is very important to note that different patients respond to various interventions. The pain in a patient’s body is known to trigger the release of various stress hormones which negatively affects the normal functioning of a various
body system.
